Right time to achieve 10-point mark, says Ashwin

MOHALI: Kings XI Punjab skipper R Ashwin believes his group bounced again in the match at the proper time and lavished reward on young pacer Arshdeep Singh for taking two an important wickets in his IPL debut here on Tuesday.


After suffering successive losses, KXIP brought their campaign again heading in the right direction with a complete 12-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) at house to take hold of the fourth spot in the desk with 10 points.

"It was very important to get that 10-point mark and I guess it's the right time in the tournament to do that," said Ashwin after KXIP limited RR to 170/7 while the visitors chased 182/6.

"It's very tough to defend here, the wicket generally gets better in the second half. We probably thought we were 10-15 runs short on this pitch."

Defending the total, 20-year-old Arshdeep equipped a big leap forward for Punjab when he pushed aside big-hitting opener Jos Buttler early.

"I thought Arshdeep bowled really well in the first few overs. We had some plans for Jos and he really executed well," Ashwin said.

"He (Arshdeep) can in truth swing the ball each ways and for a left-hander to swing each ways is a massive merit in the first six (overs) as we've got noticed with Deepak Chahar in the CSK.

"We are having a look ahead to Arshdeep performing some great things in the match."

Ashwin was adjudged the Man of the Match for his two wickets and an amazing cameo of 17 runs off 4 balls.

Talking about his recreation, Ashwin said: "For me, it is about getting various lengths with different speeds and seeking to get the batsmen with under-cutter and opposite carrom (deliveries). Murugan Ashwin, who took one wicket, said: "Really happy. We wanted to bowl well in tandem - the spinners. We wanted to make use of the longer obstacles and we needed them to hit there, so that was our plan. It was coming onto the bat well, there wasn't much dew.

"I have played a large number of cricket with him (Ashwin) and he has been helping me a lot. We have been in point of fact disappointed that we couldn't defend in the ultimate recreation but happy to be again to winning ways."
