University Registrar Manjit Singh Nijjar stated, "We have been receiving a number of applications from the teaching faculty seeking permission to contest the elections. Till now we have approved 16 members of teaching faculty to contest the elections. A number of professors today staged protest for being asked to perform the election duties and they held a meeting with the Vice Chancellor in this regard."

A University Professor JS Brar stated that round 25 applications from the school was once submitted till Monday whilst on Tuesday by myself round 85 college professors had sought permission to contest elections. He stated some extra will submit their applications in the coming days.
