Vadodara: Family of three nabbed for cheating traders posing as cops

VADODARA: For a not unusual person, a rented area in Sundarpura close to Vadodara town would appear to be a godown of a shop promoting electrical and kitchen home equipment. Although it was a godown, but the stacks of these home equipment had been all procured by a family of con artists.

A 29-year-old Piyush alias Yash Zala, his sister Monika alias Guddi Zala and their father Raju Zala had been conning traders from around the town promoting these home equipment since previous 3 years by posing as police officers or television journalists.

The prevention of crime department (PCB) of town police arrested the trio on Saturday and seized these home equipment value over Rs 4.3 lakh from the rented premises. The police had gained a number of lawsuits from the traders on the foundation of which they investigated and tracked down the family of three.

“We had information about Piyush that he would be passing by Susen Circle on the foundation of which we kept a watch and nabbed him. Later Monika and Raju had been arrested from the house the place they had stacked the property,” stated in-charge inspector R C Kanamiya of PCB.

Piyush used to consult with the department stores in numerous spaces of the town posing as an official of CBI, CID, anti-corruption bureau, crime department or a local policeman.

He would show hobby in purchasing home equipment in huge quantity and make cost thru cheque. But the cheque would by no means be cleared because of inadequate balance. By the time the dealer would realize that he has been conned, the trio would have focused every other dealer in another area.


Just like her brother, Monika used to pose as a television anchor or a journalist or a girl police inspector and cheat the traders. Police stated that their father used to accompany them to assist them with delivery of stock.


Police stated that the accused had been tracked down on the foundation of CCTV footages of the department stores and the cell phone numbers which they had given to the shop owners.


Around 45 ceiling and desk fanatics, 10 RO crops, 41 LED bulbs, 3 geysers, two ovens, 14 mixer grinders, 3 sandwich toaster, 14 induction cooktops, 3 roti makers, two water pumps and protein powders had been seized. They had deliberate to stock these home equipment and promote them within the black marketplace for cash.


Offences had been registered towards them at Manjalpur, Gotri, Wadi, Laxmipura, Harni and JP Road police stations. Police expect a number of other sufferers to come ahead towards the trio.
