State equipped to face drought, says minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Water resources minister Okay Krishnankutty said within the meeting that executive has taken all possible steps to stand the drought state of affairs within the resulting summer time. After the devastating floods in August final 12 months, the water ranges of rivers, ponds and wells have began coming down raising fear.

A study performed via the irrigation and water resources division has found that the water ranges of 62% of the wells within the state have come down when compared to the water stage in 2017. However, the minister said there are no experiences that the state will face a critical drought this season. “The depth of the drought can be analysed most effective after bearing in mind the summer season showers,” he added.

Meanwhile, shipping minister A Okay Saseendran told the meeting in a written answer that the state-owned shipping corporation has a complete debt of Rs 6124.56 crore. Of this, Rs 3,100 crore must be given to the bank consortium for taking loans on various events.

The shipping minister said KSRTC incurred loss to the tune of Rs 3.3.five crore within the resulting violence and hartals after the Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala girls’s access. “A total of 102 buses had been broken within the violence,” he said.
