Farmers' suicide: 'Cong failed to compensate kin'

CHANDIGARH: Former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal said on Tuesday that the Punjab Congress govt had failed to satisfy the promises it made to the households of farmer suicide victims, including Rs 10 lakh repayment and govt job to the next family.

The SAD patron also hit out at the state govt on going again on its promise of a whole Rs 90,000-crore farm mortgage waiver.

Badal was once addressing media at his place of abode at Chandigarh MLA apartments, after around 100 farmer suicide victims’ households amassed there on Tuesday morning. After this, victims’ households marched in opposition to the state assembly, conserving framed pictures of their kith who had dedicated suicide, but had been stopped via workforce earlier than they reached the prime court chowk. SAD president Sukhbir Badal and formative years general secretary in-charge Bikram Singh Majithia led the march.

Badal and his son Sukhbir asked Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh to “honour promises” made to farmers or quit. Badal confident the victims’ households that the SAD would battle their fight and make sure justice. The former CM added that it was once “heartless and insensitive” of Amarinder to refuse to satisfy farmers, academics and staff. “Every time, struggling other folks want him to hear their grievances, the CM sends armoured police and water guns to greet them as an alternative of coming out to a minimum of give them a sympathetic listening to,” he said.
