COIMBATORE: The civic body has floated tenders to switch the sodium-vapor boulevard lamps in old corporation limits with LED lamps. The venture seeks to switch 58,000 sodium-vapor lamps at a price of Rs 81 crore.'


“We have already obtained nod from the state govt to switch the lamps. The paintings will commence shortly after we finalize the successful bidder and the subsequent issuance of work order,” said a corporation reliable.


The choice to switch all of the sodium-vapor lamps was taken following the successful implementation of LED lamps in 40 newly-added spaces of the corporation. “This helped us preserve 42% electrical energy. We were taken up through each the commercial benefits and the efficiency of using LED lamps,” the reliable said.


Though LED lamps are a bit pricey compared to sodium-vapor ones, the go back on funding may well be attained within four to 5 years through saving a huge quantity, which otherwise can be spent on electrical energy invoice and upkeep cost, the reliable said.


The town corporation had been spending a fortune on maintaining sodium-vapor lamps. Presently, the civic body pays the state energy application Tangedco more than Rs 20 crore in keeping with annum as electrical energy invoice and spends another Rs 9 crore for maintaining boulevard lamps.
