Doctor who left cotton in woman’s abdomen booked

VADODARA: An offence was registered in opposition to Dr Shaila Bhuriya, a gynaecologist primarily based in Lunawada the town of Mahisagar district, in connection with the death of a lady in whose stomach the physician had allegedly left a cotton mop after a caesarean surgical treatment. Bhuriya was booked for causing death through negligence.

The girl Geeta Khant (33) was a resident of Malekpur Padedi in Lunawada taluka. She had gone to the state-run Cottage Hospital in Lunawada the town for an ordinary check-up. She was referred to the Aarohi Maternity Home in the the town for the supply.

Khant underwent a caesarean operation on the non-public hospital in the early hours on January 5 and delivered a toddler boy. On Monday, her stomach began swelling and he or she evolved other headaches like ache and vomiting.


She was rushed to the SSG Hospital (SSGH) at Vadodara on Tuesday. She was operated on the hospital and, in line with SSGH records, a cotton mop measuring 20cmX25cm was removed from her stomach.


In wake of the advance, doctors on the SSGH asked her husband to tell the casualty clinical officer regarding the incident and an emergency police record (EPR) was registered at SSGH.


Khant had been kept on a ventilator on the SSGH and he or she died on the hospital on Wednesday.


The Lunawada police on Friday night registered an offence regarding the incident. The offence filed through the Geeta’s husband Jayanti Khant names Dr Shaila Bhuriya, who had operated on the deceased, as an accused. The physician is but to be arrested.
