TN: 2 goat thieves arrested in Chennai

CHENNAI: Police have arrested two youths who roamed the Red Hills area and lifted goats discovered on roads.
The duo -- A Surya, 20, of Ananthanayagi Nagar and S Dilli Babu, 23, of Bharathi Nagar in Korukkupet area -- had been caught after they tried to lift a goat from Konimedu in Red Hills area on Thursday.

Police sources mentioned the duo picked up a goat that was once grazing in a farmland in the area. When they shifted it in to an autorickshaw, the animal began bleating. Hearing the goat’s bleating, its owner, R Thiruvengadam, rushed to the spot and stopped the autorickshaw with the help of his neighbours.


The duo had been passed over to the Red Hills police. The police seized the automobile used for stealing the animal.


Animal welfare activist and co-founder of People for Animals (PfA) Shiranee Pereira mentioned the duo had come on a two-wheeler to their area and taken away two goats from PfA animal refuge. The robbery was once recorded on CCTV cameras, and the footages had been despatched to the police.



Residents mentioned the duo will have stolen more than 90 goats from other localities in the Red Hills. The criminals centered handiest grownup animals. They may have sold every goat for Rs four,000 or more.
