Move to establish pumping station on OSR land flayed

Coimbatore: Residents of Sai Nagar in Podanur are up in fingers towards town corporation’s transfer to transform an open space reservation website (OSR) of their area into a pumping station.
As part of the underground drainage mission being implemented in added spaces of town corporation, the Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board (TWAD) has selected the OSR land at Sai Nagar to build a pumping station.

Under the mission, sewage connections can be given to 69,700 households by laying sewage pipelines for 439km and 17,754 manholes. Besides, 11 main sewage pump stations and 10 sub-stations can be constructed.

Secretary of SSFU residents welfare affiliation S Sreekala stated, “Over 1,000 families are living in three colonies - Sai Nagar, Sathyanarayana Nagar and Fathima Umar Avenue. This is the one space available within the area for the residents to make use of it as playground and strolling tracks.”

“We had been hard the corporation to transform it as a park for the last 30 years. Neither they evolved it as a park nor allowed us to increase. We had been simply cleansing and using the 64 cents of OSR land to spend our leisure time,” she stated.

Just because some timber have been grown because of widespread rain, the officers had considered it to be one of the most unused OSR sites and made up our minds to build a pumping station right here, she stated.

“We aren't towards the development of pumping station. Even we would like the civic body to enforce the underground drainage mission. But, all we ask for is just to make a choice an alternate location. So that we needn't lose our single open website,” she added.

After retaining discussions with residents on Friday, the TWAD officers had assured them to take a important step.
