Men strip, assault temple priests over money row

MANGALURU/UDUPI: Two clergymen of Mahalingeshwara Temple, Karje in Udupi, were stripped and assaulted via a group of individuals over a financial matter on Thursday.

Ramakrishna Adiga and Srikanth Adiga are present process treatment at a private health facility in Ajjarkad, Udupi. Laxman Nimbargi, superintendent of police, Udupi, said the incident took place when the deepostava used to be in development. According to the complainant, a group comprising Sudhakar Shetty, Navin Puthran, Tadalu Suresh Shetty, Kangibetti Balakrishna Shetty and others barged into the sanctum sanctorum at three.30pm. They snatched the clergymen' cell phones, driven them to the ground, assaulted and stripped them. They also threatened to homicide them.

The complainants said this is because they had filed a case towards Suggi Sudhakar, president, temple renovation committee, for alleged misappropriation of price range. Meanwhile, Raghavendra Bellanje, 31, accused the clergymen of insulting them and filed a case beneath the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. In his grievance, he alleged the clergymen insulted him and asked him to get out of the temple.
