Housing societies ready to go green if govt offers tax sop

MUMBAI: Deteriorating air quality ranges, noise air pollution, chaotic roads and stifling jams are one of the vital causes that spurred a collective of housing societies in Mumbai to come up with an out-of-the-box answer.
The Maharashtra Societies’ Welfare Association (MSWA), an umbrella frame of over 10,000 societies, has requested the state government to waive off property tax an identical to the cost of buying and working environment-friendly bicycles and electrical cars which members can use for short-distance travel or to travel in a common pool or on subscription foundation. MSWA has made the demand mentioning a need to scale back cars on roads and air pollution.

Housing societies can be taking on over 70 different initiatives and will show off them on the Housing Society Management Show (HSMS-2018) slated between December 14 and 16 at Nehru Centre, Worli, stated association chairperson Ramesh Prabhu.

In a memorandum to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta, a consultative panel of the HSMS has appealed to them to actively contain societies to decongest roads.

With an average of one,650 cars in step with kilometre of road duration, ingenious pondering and solutions for mobility of voters is needed, the memorandum states.

“With 33 lakh cars plying 2,000 km of slim motorable roads in Mumbai, chaos will proceed to chase us every day. Illegal parking by way of a majority of the 14 lakh 3 and four- wheelers and 19 lakh two-wheelers additional shrinks the scarce public spaces.
