After shedding openers Dhawan and Vijay from the two-Test collection towards the West Indies, the selectors – or resources as regards to them – had stated that they had communicated with the cricketers. The Vinod Rai-led committee too went with that observation. In flip, the cricketers – some keen to be quoted, some not – stated there were no communique with the players in any way.

TOI has learnt that the group management is furious over all of the confusion that has prevailed over the topic. “Someone is obviously not telling the reality here. Now, both it’s the players or it’s the selectors. If they (BCCI/CoA) wish to understand this higher, why not simply make the captain, trainer, the senior cricketers and selectors take a seat across the table and listen to them out? It'll be instantly transparent who's lying and who is not,” stated resources.

Despite all of the stories emerging in some sections of the media, TOI can ascertain there has not been any assembly yet at any level between players and selectors. Neither has the CoA tried to intervene or understand the topic. At no time limit was once Vijay informed what the future held for him. Neither was once Karun Nair explained why he continues to be overlooked. Even Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai batsman who was once hopeful of enjoying the two-Test collection towards the West Indies but in the end got overlooked, hasn’t heard a phrase from the national selection committee, say the ones in the know of items.

TOI has additionally learnt that the BCCI has not despatched notices to any of these cricketer for sharing their ideas with the media.

Vijay will head with the India ‘A’ group, underneath the tutelage of junior national trainer Rahul Dravid, to find his method amongst runs once once more before the tour of Australia. Nair will continue to find himself out of rivalry since Hanuma Vihari, the Andhra cricketer who impressed at the tour of England, retains his place at No. 6. Sharma, who has been in the reckoning to make a comeback, can have to wait a while before he can don the Test whites once more. Dhawan, meanwhile, would possibly not play Test cricket anytime soon.

At no level , say resources, have the selectors found it important to keep up a correspondence with those folks. “It took a Mayank Agarwal perpetually to discover a position in the Test squad in spite of all of the scoring he did in the home circuit. But all that the selector is troubled with is in conveying that cricketers are being communicated with. That’s not the case,” say resources.

Under the circumstances, the onus has been on captain Virat Kohli – who turns 29 next month – to spell out the predicted roles to the players.

The board, it seems, is just too busy preventing a large number of prison battles to appear into cricketing issues. With five senior national selectors again on board, thanks to the Supreme Court order dated Aug 20, 2018, the BCCI now spends a collective Rs 3 crore on their annual pay cheques. Last heard, the SC-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) was once heard discussing if those ‘smart men’ required a lift. If all goes neatly, the annual spend at the senior national selection committee for the boys’s group may just soon get hiked to roughly Rs four.5 cr. That’s a quarter less than 1,000,000 greenbacks, tour allowances and different perks aside. It’s a far cry from the days when men in an identical positions were anticipated to do the activity on an honorary basis.

The BCCI can move on hiking salaries. But extra importantly, it clearly must outline the role of a countrywide selector. Selecting 15 contributors out of a pool of 20 is not the challenge. It lies, as an alternative, in making sure that the five overlooked know why they don’t fit into the group management’s plans.
