NEW DELHI: Lalneihtluanga used to be a known face within the boxing circuit within the early 90s in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. Young Jeremy used to be offered to weightlifting on the age of 7 at a fitness center centre in his village.

"I used to watch boys training at a fitness center near my area. They used to lift weights. It excited me. That’s what gave me the encouragement I wished to take a look at my hand on the game," the youngster said.

"I approached the ones boys within the fitness center and asked them if they may be able to teach me how to elevate. I started doing it and started lifting weights with perfection. May be God wanted me to transform a weightlifter someday,” Jeremy said.

After some months, Jeremy heard of a new weightlifting centre that have been in-built his village.

"I used to be truly excited and approached Malsawma (Jeremy'ss first coach) right away. He is the person who gave me professional weightlifting classes,” the 16-year-old said.

Jeremy additionally learnt the ‘Bamboo technique’ from Malsawma.

"He used to invite me to carry a bamboo and asked me to lift it slowly. Those have been 5mm lengthy and 20mm huge. There used to be no weight on them, however it used to be in reality tough to lift a stick than a weight because you need to understand how to stability it. It is slightly tough,” Jeremy said.

After eight months of rigorous training, coach Malsawma discovered an uncut diamond in Jeremy and he took him to the Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune.

With his spectacular efficiency, Jeremy used to be one of 3 boys who were given admission to the Army Sports Institute.

"My first coach Malsawma helped me reach there. He gave me a platform. I owe a lot to him,” Jeremy said.

Jeremy began training below a new coach Zarzokema on the ASI.

Under Zarzokema’s tutelage, the youngster clinched the gold medal on the sub-junior nationals in Patna and then went on to win a silver medal on the World Youth Weightlifting Championship in Malaysia.

He additionally has a silver within the early life category on the Asian Youth and Junior Championships in Uzbekistan.


"Zarzokema sir is a qualified instructor. He has labored a lot on me. A large due to him,” Jeremy said.


Now, Jeremy has one target – The 2020 Tokyo Olympics.


"I want to carry out on the senior Olympics. In January, I can be beginning my training with seniors like Sathish Sivalingam and Rahul Ragala. Sanjita and Mirabai can also be there to guide me. I just want to pass to Tokyo and do what I did within the Youth Olympics,” an excited Jeremy signed off.
