Labourer borrows Rs 200 to buy lottery ticket, wins Rs 1.5 crore

MANDVI (Sangrur): The first thing Manoj Kumar did when he heard that he had gained a Rs 1.5 crore jackpot with the Rs 200 that he had borrowed from a neighbour to buy a lottery price tag used to be inform his eldest daughter, who used to be at the verge of quitting her studies, that she will pursue her goals now. He informed her that she must in reality prepare to join the Indian Police Service, something that she had all the time dreamed of.

He did something else. He informed his different daughter that instead of aiming to be a nurse, she must attempt to turn out to be a doctor.

Until a few days again, Manoj, 40, and his wife Raj Kaur earned slightly Rs 250 each, operating as daily-wagers at a neighborhood brick kiln near their village in Punjab’s Sangrur district. Life used to be tricky, what with six mouths to feed.

But existence became around after he gained the state government’s Rakhi Bumper Lottery. Overnight, the day-after-day bet became a millionaire. Now assets agents hound him and bankers way him with funding plans. In his village, he is some sort of a hero.

If he has one regret, it's that he couldn't spend well on his ill father Hawa Singh, who died lately after creating asthmatic complications. “I must have gained the lottery previous. Maybe my father will have been stored," he mentioned. “After my father died, I went again to the brick kiln. Even after putting in additional hours, I could by no means earn greater than Rs 250 a day as I used to be paid 50 paise consistent with brick.”

Though purchasing agricultural land is on his list of to-do’s, Manoj desperately needs to build a new space for his family so that he can get them out of the crumbling half-brick, half-mud construction they name house. He may be making plans to begin a small industry and is discussing ideas with close friends and relations.

Manoj’s mother, Krishni Devi, mentioned they moved to Mandvi village in 1984. “We had some relations residing here. In our village in Narwana district of Haryana, floods destroyed plants every year. Here, the panchayat gave us 200 sq. yards at the outskirts of the village. Those have been excellent days and other folks were not as money-minded as they're as of late,” she smiled. She remembered her husband who spent his whole existence mending punctured cycles tyres. Manoj, she mentioned, had to get started operating as a daily-wager when he used to be just 15.

But all that’s previously. “God has been kind to us,” Krishni Devi mentioned, bowing sooner than the portrait of Jesus Christ nailed to a filthy old wall.
