Woman, 29, uses infant to con elderly, held

CHENNAI: Police on Tuesday arrested a girl who used her Eight-month-old daughter to con an aged lady of a gold chain worth ₹48,000 at Peerkankaranai on Tuesday evening.

Police mentioned Divya, 29, took away a two sovereign gold chain from Krishnaveni, 74, of Mudichur. Krishnaveni used to be returning after providing prayers at a temple. As soon as she got here out of the temple, Divya along side her accomplice and her Eight-monthold woman approached her. They requested Krishnaveni to bless the child and handed her over. Meanwhile, the lady who used to be with Divya placed a dupatta around Krishnaveni’s neck on the pretext of getting her blessing, removed her gold chain and escaped.

A bit of later, when Krishnaveni realised that she had be en conned, she lodged a criticism on the Peerkankarani police station.

Police nabbed Divya who used to be moving around within sight with the newborn and seized the gold chain.


A court later despatched Divya to jail. Police have launched a hunt for her accomplice in line with the inputs given by her.


Police despatched the child to a toddler care centre within the town.
