PM Narendra Modi congratulates Hima Das for historic gold medal

NEW DELHI: Congratulatory needs are pouring in for India's new golden woman in athletics Hima Das who on Thursday created history after changing into the first from her nation to win a gold medal within the observe match of an international championships.

Andrea Miklos of Romania came second with a timing of 52.07 seconds to claim silver whilst USA's Taylor Manson took home broze after clocking 52.28 seconds.

Das had also led the full time charts within the semifinals with a timing of 52.10 seconds on Wednesday. She also finished the first round heats on Tuesday with a timing of 52.25 seconds.

The Assam woman clocked an Indian U-20 report of 51.32 seconds to finish sixth within the Commonwealth Games 400m final in Gold Coast in April. Since then, she has long past onto improving her timings. She diminished the Indian U-20 report in 400m to 51.13 seconds whilst winning gold within the recently-concluded National Inter State Championships in Guwahati.

She now joins the illustrious company of big name javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who received a gold in Poland within the ultimate edition in 2016 in an international report effort.

The different Indian medal winners at the World Junior Championships previously include Seema Punia (bronze in discus in 2002) and Navjeet Kaur Dhillon (bronze in discus in 2014).
