Official Match ball carriers bring India on field at FIFA World Cup

MOSCOW: India on the FIFA World Cup might be a long shot at this level but a few Indian children got to are living a dream by way of being the Official Match Ball Carriers (OMBCs) on the ongoing mega-event here.

Selected after a national skill hunt by way of automotive massive Kia Motors, one among FIFAs respectable World Cup partners, 11-year-old Nathania John and 10-year-old Rishi Tej changed into India's first set of respectable fit ball carriers.

While Nathania led the likes of Neymar and Phillipe Coutinho out with the fit ball in her hands throughout the Brazil-Costa Rica clash in St Petersburg, Rishitej had his second throughout the Belgium-Panama organization level fit which featured stars reminiscent of Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku amongst others.

"I am so thankful to football, it is the sweetest thing to have ever happened to me. It's bigger than a game, for me, football is life," Rishitej stated.

"I was a little nervous that day because this was a lifetime opportunity," he spoke about his experience at what is popularly called the 'biggest display on earth'.

"Not everyone gets this chance. To be here meant the world to me," added Nathania who desires to spend the remainder of her lifestyles enjoying the 'gorgeous sport'.

The initiative was introduced on April 10 in India, inviting footballers within the age-group of 10 to 14, to show off their talents and win an opportunity to visit Russia.

It had Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri for my part monitoring the choice procedure and the overall possible choices have been produced from a shortlist of 50 kids.


The children have been required to show dribbling, juggling and capturing talents within the contest and also had to answer a set of questions to wreck thru.


A complete of 64 kids from the world over are decided on to be Official Match Ball Carriers.


"This is just the beginning of Kia's association with big-ticket sporting events. Our next initiative would probably be the Australian Open where we will try to send kids as official ball collectors on the court," Manohar Bhat, Kia's head of gross sales and advertising and marketing, stated.


The company renewed its long-standing association with the season's first Grand Slam earlier this year for a length of five years.
