Mum plastic surgeon posts patient's pic on FB

MUMBAI: After an activist complained against a south Mumbai-based plastic surgeon who posted a affected person's picture on his Facebook account, the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has asked the physician to supply a proof.

In its notice dated May 7, the MMC has forwarded the activist's grievance and asked him to offer a detailed answer. MMC officers, however, made it clear that looking for a proof is simply the first step. "MMC seeks explanation from doctors about every complaint it receives, but any further action, if at all, will be based on our ethics committee's review of the case," mentioned MMC's Dr Jayesh Lele.

The grievance was filed by means of RTI activist Chetan Kothari, who mentioned he got here across the post whilst looking for a plastic surgeon. "I was shocked to see this doctor posing with another person who he claimed was his patient," he mentioned. The affected person's permission should have been sought and/or his eyes and face can have been blurred. "It should be put up on the hospital's website, and that too after taking the patient's due consent," Kothari added.

When contacted, the physician mentioned he had posted the image because the affected person, a diabetic, had got cured in spite of maintaining 60% burns. He mentioned patients with over 40% burns infrequently arrange smartly. "I put up the picture as a means to create awareness about burns treatment. I did so after seeking the patient's permission," added the physician.
