TRS government junks plan to merge villages with GHMC

HYDERABAD: Fearing backlash from the folks forward of the election yr, the TRS govt has junked the proposal to merge just about 40 gram panchayats with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and has clubbed them with 18 new municipalities around the town.

At a public meeting on Friday, municipal management minister Okay T Rama Rao announced the scrapping of the proposal and assured that no new taxes will be levied even within the new municipalities for the next two to 3 years.

Official assets said the largest urban local body can be Nizampet, which will include Nizampet, Pragatinagar and Bachupally. Similarly, the Shamshabad municipality will include areas reminiscent of Shamshabad, Kothwalguda, Satamrai, Ootpally, Tondupally and Chinnagollapally.

“Since there are elected our bodies within the gram panchayats, new municipalities will come into impact only after their tenure is over. The panchayats have tenure until July this yr,” a senior municipal management legitimate said.

The state govt’s initial proposal to merge 40 gram panchayats within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with the GHMC was to make sure planned expansion, higher management and higher regulation enforcement, basically to curb illegal development.
