Four held for extorting ‘quack’ over sting footage

GHAZIABAD: Four reporters, together with a girl, had been arrested for allegedly extorting money from a quack in Vijay Nagar space on Saturday. According to police, the accused had demanded Rs 1 lakh from the quack in lieu of no longer airing a sting operation conducted by them. Three of them are reportedly running with a vernacular newspaper, whilst the fourth is a reporter with a local information channel.

The accused have been identified as Kishan Kant Sharma (TV reporter), Shakil Khan, Liyaqat Hussain and Naina Singh, all running for a vernacular paper. An FIR underneath Sections 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 386 (extortion), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for harm, attack or wrongful restraint) and 506 (prison intimidation) of the IPC has been registered.

As the quack did not have Rs 1 lakh that the 4 allegedly demanded, he gave them Rs 20,000 to delete the photographs and movies they had recored throughout the sting.
