Delhi: Work starts to take IGI metro to Dwarka convention centre

NEW DELHI: DMRC has started extending the high-speed Airport Express Line deeper into Dwarka with the construction work of an underground stretch.

The corridor, lately working between New Delhi metro station and Dwarka Sector 21, will likely be extended till Dwarka Sector 25 to link it to the impending Exhibition cum Convention Centre (ECC).
“The period of the proposed extension is 1.7km with same old gauge,” a spokesperson of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. An underground station is planned within the ECC advanced with a subway — built the use of the ‘lower and canopy’ manner — linking it with the convention centre.

The detailed mission file for the proposed extension has been licensed via the Centre, the spokesperson added.

The Rs 310-crore mission might be completed within the subsequent two and a part years.

The high-speed Airport Express Line now connects New Delhi metro station to Dwarka Sector 21 station, with four stations in between — Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Aerocity and IGI Airport (Terminal three).

DMRC was asked via the central government to extend the high-speed line to the exhibition and convention centre, which would be the first of its sort facility in west Delhi. The cutting-edge centre, at the lines of Pragati Maidan and India Habitat Centre, will likely be supplied to host seminars, conventions and large-scale exhibitions.

With Airport Express Line achieving the convention centre, it will be easier for other people from across the town to achieve there. The centre is expected to witness a huge footfall, which will building up the passenger site visitors at the line as well. The day-to-day ridership at the line is now around 55,000.

DMRC is purchasing 36 coaches, which will lead to six extra trains for the corridor when services and products are extended to Dwarka Sector 25. The trains will likely be same old gauge with a most sensible pace of 132kmph.
