Card skimmer found in SBI ATM, police ask users to be cautious

COIMBATORE: City police are caution ATM customers to beware of data-skimming units after they recovered one from an ATM owned by way of a public sector financial institution within the town.

Luckily, as they have not accumulated the recorded records from the skimmer and the micro camera, those that used the ATM needn't fear,” Mallika mentioned. Police have shaped particular groups to nab the suspects, she added.


Cybercrime cell police have registered a case towards the suspects underneath Sections 66, 66 (c) read with 84 (c) of the Information Technology Act according to a criticism from SBI regional manager Joseph Christin.


Meanwhile, town police commissioner Okay Periaiah mentioned that many of the banks don't seem to be troubled about the issue as they have outsourced ATM operations. “ATM machines are put in and maintained by way of private firms. Private operators are again employed for money replenishment operations. CCTV cameras mounted there are maintained by way of any other corporate. As the money is insured, many of the banks don't seem to be troubled,” he mentioned.


“We request the financial institution government to test the ATM machines frequently. They need to take vital steps to stop miscreants from fixing skimmer units within the machines. The banks will have to use anti-skimming units to offer protection to their customers. I also request people to alert us in the event that they in finding skimmer units,” the officer added.
