BJP attacks Congress over poll ticket to lawyer who represented Mehul Choksi

NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: The BJP on Tuesday hit out at the Congress for giving a price ticket in upcoming Karnataka assembly polls to a attorney who had represented fugitive diamond dealer Mehul Choksi, and alleged that the contaminated businessman loved the "patronage" of Rahul Gandhi.
"HS Chandramauli has been given a Congress ticket from the Madikeri constituency for Karnataka Assembly election next month because he represented Choksi," BJP spokeperson GVL Rao alleged.

The birthday celebration's reaction got here after Congress spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa, who lost out to attorney Chandramauli within the race for birthday celebration price ticket from Madikeri, put out a cryptic message on Twitter: "I have never represented Mehul Choksi nor have I been given the party nomination."

Addressing a press convention in Delhi, Rao alleged, "Choksi enjoyed the patronage, strength and support of Rahul Gandhi in the party."

The Congress president has up to now disregarded BJP's allegations of having links with Choksi.

"Choksi was the third son-in-law of the Congress after Vadra (Priyanka Gandhi's husband Rober Vadra) and Vijay Mallya, who is also an accused in a bank fraud," Rao stated.

Kalappa has been a price ticket aspirant since 2009 however without any success.

"Someone in my birthday celebration is clearly telling me to seek nomination for a constituency befitting my status. But those FB buddies I really like and respect - do not shed tears for me.

"After so many disappointments, I'm entitled to make use of Rajesh Khanna's immortal phrases, 'Pushpa, I hate tears'."

Kalappa highlighted the branding of a few persons as "unelectable" for denying them price ticket over and over again.


"Many people within the INC too have made the mistake of calling folks 'unelectable' - those same persons have greater than proved us flawed, totally flawed! I'm a victim of one such marketing campaign, why? Because I put on commonplace clothes, eat at small puts, do not commute with a retinue, am truthful, down to earth."


The Congress is dealing with serious backlash from many birthday celebration loyalists and sitting MLAs who have been denied price ticket for the May 12 assembly polls. The supporters of price ticket aspirants went at the rampage at a number of puts in Karnataka yesterday.


BJP spokeperson Rao claimed that due to Choksi's connections with the highest Congress management, a criminal case against him was converted right into a civil case.


"Rahul had promoted Choksi's Gitanjali Jewellery in 2013 and later then Finance Minister P. Chidambaram had removed the Director of the Allahabad Bank for denying to restructure a loan of Rs 1,550 crore to Choksi," the BJP spokesperson alleged.
