Bengaluru businessman loses Rs 60 lakh to woman on dating site

BENGALURU: A 34-year-old Bengaluru businessman, who was once trawling a relationship web page, misplaced nearly Rs 60 lakh to a lady he had befriended on-line.

According to the grievance filed with the cybercrime police, businessman Satish (name changed) had opened a profile on a relationship web page. On July 18, 2017, he got here across a woman whose person ID was once ‘shompa76’ and offered herself as Arpita from Kolkata. After a short lived chat, the duo shared their mobile numbers and started chatting on WhatsApp and exchanged pictures too.



After a couple of days, Arpita sought his assist as her father have been admitted to health center and she wanted Rs 30,000. Suresh transferred the cash to her account. A couple of days later, she requested for more cash, pointing out her father have been admitted to BM Birla Heart Research Centre, Kolkata. Between December 15, 2017 and January 23, 2018, Suresh transferred more cash in multiple transactions.


He transferred Rs 19 lakh to Rupali Majumdar’s account and Rs 40.7 lakh to Kushan Majumder’s account. When Arpita stopped responding to his calls and messages, Suresh become suspicious and realized he have been cheated.


Cybercrime police say such cons had been happening for a long time. “In matrimonial and relationship websites, cyber criminals pick out aged or separated males/girls looking for a courting. They pose as wealthy entrepreneurs, manipulate the victims and scouse borrow their money,” said a police professional.
