Before fresh start, old challenges remain for Congress in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Jitendra Singh, the new All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Odisha, will likely be facing a lot of demanding situations to set the celebration in order when he visits the state later this month.
From tackling factionalism to preventing exodus of celebration leaders and voters and putting in place the organizational construction for simultaneous Lok Sabha and meeting elections in 2019, Singh can have his hands full.

He is more likely to visit the state inside of the following couple of days, celebration insiders mentioned. Whenever he comes, he has to elucidate whether or not the celebration prime command would persist with Prasad Harichandan as Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president or exchange him. The extended uncertainty over his continuance has kept the celebration's organisational works in peril. But in either case, Singh faces the daunting task of tackling infighting because the celebration, out of power in Odisha for the past 18 years, attempts to make a recent start.

In the elections after 2014, panchayat and concrete native our bodies besides bypoll for Bijepur, the Congress has been relegated to a 3rd position conceding the No. 2 slot to an emerging BJP. The dependable Congress vote were given divided between BJD and BJP. "If the party is serious about Odisha, Singh has to find a way out," a political analyst mentioned.

Ahead of Singh's excursion, Harichandan on Saturday mentioned there will likely be organizational adjustments in the celebration ranging from the grassroots, sparking speculations of what's in store. Harichandan mentioned, "There will be a Nabakelabara (massive change) of the party. New office-bearers will take over at the block and district levels. A roadmap has been drawn to gear up the party keeping in mind the battle of 2019."

He, then again, didn't clarify if the exchange he spoke about also included him, since his personal position is perceived shaky. Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, who has been vocal in opposition to Harichandan as PCC chief, mentioned, "Harichandan has spoken about Nabakalebara. This may as well include him. It's for party president Rahul Gandhi to decide."

A section of leaders imagine it is already too overdue to switch the PCC management, for the reason that election is barely a yr away. Detractors of Harichandan really feel that he must be modified to save lots of the celebration and are hopeful that he will be shown the door.
