Amend Pocso Act; give no bail to rapists: Karnataka minister

MANGALURU: Minister for food, civil provides and client affairs U T Khader has instructed the central govt to amend the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Condemning the Kathua rape and murder case, Khader said there's need for bringing amendments to the Pocso Act in order that it will prevent the recurrence of such cases.

“The incident has introduced shame to all the nation. I encourage the central govt to amend the Pocso Act in order that no accused gets bail in case of heinous crimes against children. The act will have to make the life sentence a minimum punishment for such crimes against children, and the loss of life penalty will have to be the utmost punishment,” Khader said.

“The kinfolk of victims in crimes against children give you the option to avail the services and products of personal advocates. The govt will have to calm down procedures to make this procedure easy. All such circumstances will have to be heard in rapid track courts to ensure fast justice to victims, and sufficient protection needs to be given to the kinfolk of victims,” Khader instructed.

Talking about the legislation and order situation in the nation, Khader said, “As per the National Crime Record Bureau, Karnataka stands in ninth position while the crime price in different BJP dominated states is top.”

On his marketing campaign for the elections, Khader said, “I am not contesting to defeat my fighters. My contest is best to win.”

He said a malicious marketing campaign through which many lies are being instructed is being performed by means of different political parties in his constituency to defeat him. “It is a struggle between fact and lies being spread by means of different political parties. I've by no means asked the caste and faith of people who sought my lend a hand. Dakshina Kannada is not Uttar Pradesh. They cannot spread lies and win the election,” Khader said.
