Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations slow down Noida traffic

NOIDA : Traffic crawled on arterial roads of Noida for almost five hours on Saturday as hundreds of folks thronged the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal in Sector 95 to have fun Ambedkar Jayanti.

Those travelling from Noida to Delhi needed to combat snarls intermittently from round 11am to 4pm because of mismanagement on the part of the authorities and illegal parking on the sides of the main road.

As the only multi-level parking facility throughout the memorial premises was now not put to make use of, participants of Dalit organisations and supporters of different political and social outfits, who had arrived for the event, parked their cars on the two- kilometre-long stretch abutting the memorial.

A procession led by means of Dalit Utthan Sangharsh Mahasabha, by which hundreds of supporters of Dr B R Ambedkar participated, began from Noida Stadium at round 10am and arrived at the memorial by means of Film City flyover in noon. Participants collected on the flyover protecting photos of Ambedkar and walked in opposition to the memorial, elevating slogans of "Jai Bhim".

This resulted in traffic closing stranded on the flyover for almost an hour which in turn resulted in snarls on the Noida-Delhi carriageway of the hyperlink road. Snarls continued until night time as individuals began leaving the memorial round 1.30 pm.
