2007 terror remains a mystery, blame it on shoddy investigation

HYDERABAD: The shoddy investigation carried out by the 3 businesses that probed the Mecca Masjid bomb blast incident conclusively led to the prosecution’s case collapsing like a pack of playing cards and acquittal of all the accused individuals. With the result that even 11 years after the incident, there's no clarity as to who actually carried the blasts.

Soon after the incident in Mecca Masjid on May 18, 2007, by which 16 individuals were killed (11within the bomb blast and 5 because of police firing), the case used to be probed by the Hussaini

Alam police for the first two months. The police pointed the finger of suspicion at Bangladesh-based Harkat Ul Jihad Al Islami and rounded up a couple of local youths at the rate that they prompted the blasts.

The CBI then took over the case and within the first chargesheet within the case, named a couple of individuals belonging to the RSS and Hindu Vichar Manch, including Naba Kumar Sarkar alias Swami Aseemananda of the Van Vasi Kalyan Ashram, a Chhattisgarh-based NGO, as accused. The case used to be then taken over by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from the CBI in 2011.
