Tamil Nadu govt orders probe into Kurangani forest fire

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu executive on Wednesday appointed senior bureaucrat Atulya Misra as an inquiry officer to probe the Kurangani forest hearth in Bodi vary of Theni district. The authentic can even probe trekking in fire-prone areas.

An order issued by means of surroundings and forests secretary Md Nasimuddin said the unfortunate incident of forest hearth in Kottagudi reserved forest in Theni district on March 11 resulted in loss of several innocent lives. “The cases leading to this incident of forest hearth, as well as trekking activity without proper permission from forest division in forest fire-prone house must be inquired into intimately, to be able to allow the government to take additional action,” the officer said.


Misra is secretary to the dep. of earnings and disaster management.


The terms of reference given to the inquiry officer come with cases leading to the tragic incident and position and lapses on the part of the trekking organisers and forest officers, if any. Procedure established within the forest division for law/permission of trekking in reserved forest house will be reviewed.


The officer will have to put up recommendations to avoid such incidents/tragedies in forests. The inquiry will have to be completed and the document despatched to the government inside two months.
