Smuggled liquor sold in houses in Khoda, say locals

Ghaziabad: Locals alleged on Tuesday that bootlegging and sale of smuggled liquor were rampant in Khoda Colony, with a number of women having taken up jobs of retail sale of unlawful alcohol from their houses. They have alleged that law enforcement officials are hand-in-glove with the liquor smugglers.
While Ghaziabad SSP Hari Narayan Singh has suspended 4 law enforcement officials of Khoda police station, including SHO Dhruv Bhushan Dubey, the district management has beneficial the suspension of 3 officers of the excise department as smartly, hours after 4 persons died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in the space.

Khoda-based social activist, Dorris Francis advised TOI: “Police and excise department officers have passed the dollar on every different on every occasion we now have complained about the sale of smuggled liquor in Khoda Colony. Smugglers procure affordable liquor from Haryana and Delhi, where costs are lower as in comparison to UP. These bottles are being sold from houses in Khoda with a number of women having taken up jobs to sell smuggled liquor in retail which is at its height each night. There is no single point of sale of unlawful liquor in Khoda. You can purchase illicit liquor from many families.”

On February 7, Ghaziabad police had nabbed a bootlegger from Khoda Colony and seized two scooters which he had retrofitted with boxes to move contraband liquor. One person, recognized by police as Jai Chand, used to be arrested for allegedly the use of the changed scooters for delivery of liquor on orders gained through phone calls.


Around 20 days in the past, a huge cache of smuggled liquor used to be recovered from a storeroom on a plot of land in Sangam Park adjoining the Hindon Canal in Khoda throughout a police raid.


Khoda municipality chairman Reena Bhati, wife of the slain BJP chief Gajendra Bhati, visited households of the deceased on Tuesday. “The sale of unlawful liquor used to be stopped only for around 4 days, following the incident. It started full-fledged way thereafter.”


“Since Ghaziabad is a transit point, liquor consignment from Haryana and Rajasthan to different jap states passes in the course of the town,” mentioned joint excise commissioner of Meerut zone Rajesh Mani Tripathi .
