Only 3 Gurugram parks get treated water, says MCG in RTI reply

Gurugram: Some 3 years ago, the MCG had announced that it could water all neighborhood parks with recycled sewerage water. But recycled water is used at only 3 places in the metropolis at this time, an RTI question has revealed.
According to the response given via the MCG to an RTI application filed via Aseem Takyar, a city-based RTI activist, handled water from Dhanwapur sewage treatment plant (STP) is getting used at only 3 parks — the neighborhood parks in Sector 15 (phase 2) and outdated DLF on MG highway, and Biodiversity Park.

“In 2015 and 2016, the government made a statement to use recycled water in parks and green belts on a large scale. But the venture has nonetheless now not been implemented. Although water scarcity hits the town every year in summer, parks and green belts aren't watered with handled water,” Takyar said.

He added, “The lack of recycled water has ended in overconsumption of groundwater for building purposes. There isn't any gadget in position to offer recycled water for plenty of building sites. It is leading to unlawful extraction of groundwater.”

Experts said the handled water could be used to deal with the water crisis in the metropolis. Ramesh Kumar, a hydrologist, said: “Recycling sewage water appears to be the one future of the town, as groundwater tables are speedy depleting and water our bodies are often drying up. While canal water is used strictly for consuming, handled sewage water could be used for cleansing, gardening and all different purposes.”

In 2015, the company had planned to put in 56 STPs in Gurugram. The civic government made a statement to lay dedicated pipelines for recycled water in outdated and new Gurugram the next year. Currently, over 170 million litres of waste water is handled day by day in the metropolis. While a few of it's used at building sites and for irrigation, a great amount is launched into an 8km-long drain that flows to the Yamuna.
