Mangaluru: Certificate racket busted, one institute employee held

MANGALURU: Two years after a city-based institute began selling faux certificate for classes that it doesn’t even offer, the city police on Wednesday busted the racket behind it and arrested an worker of the institute.
Mangalore Institute of Technological Science (MITS) used to sell faux certificate for SSLC, PUC, stage, degree and B.Tech classes for a price starting from Rs 10,000 to Rs 45,000 ever since it began operations in June 2016, the police stated. MITS is positioned on TC Road in Thokottu, round 13km from here.

While SSLC and PUC certificate were being offered for Rs 10,000, the racket used to sell levels and degree certificate for Rs 45,000, police stated.

The website of MITS reads that the institute is authorised by means of ISTE, New Delhi and boasts of 17 classes, including technical training, transport and business.


The police have arrested one of the crucial accused specifically Godwin D’Souza. He was an worker and residing with regards to the institute. MITS director Askhar Sheikh and principal Askhan Sheikh are absconding. According to the police, the trio was working the racket.


Police stated the accused used to focus on unemployed youths. They used to gather all pertinent information on such youths and factor them faux certificate inside a week for a price. They had also been giving certificate to those that sought them voluntarily, police stated. MITS used to factor SSLC certificate within the title of Mangalore Public School.


At least 150 students had been issued faux certificate for SSLC, PUC, stage, degree and B Tech classes, police stated. Though MITS was established in June 2016, the institute have been issuing certificate dated since 2013.


Police have recovered certificate issued by means of MITS, a laptop, three faux seals, a printer, papers and an iPhone from Godwin. Further investigation is underway.
