CBI court discharges Maran brothers and all other accused from illegal telephone exchange case

CHENNAI: In a major relief to former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran and his elder brother Kalanidhi Maran, a unique courtroom for CBI instances right here on Wednesday discharged them from the decade-old illegal phone alternate case.

Special judge Natarajan mentioned he used to be discharging all the seven accused from the case since there used to be no prima facie proof to turn out the fees in opposition to them.


According to the CBI, Dayanidhi Maran, throughout the test duration of June 2004 to December 2006, when he used to be Union minister for communique and knowledge generation, had misused his place of job and put in a private phone alternate at his apartments in Chennai and utilised the ability for business transactions involving Sun Network.


It mentioned he had caused a lack of Rs 1.78 crore to the exchequer. More than 700 telecom traces had been put in at their apartments in Boat Club and Gopalapuram right here, the agency charged.


Among the accused were former BSNL basic manager Ok Brahmnathan, former deputy basic manager M P Velusamy and Dayanidhi Maran's personal secretary Gauthaman.
