Tamil Nadu among states with low maternal mortality rate: Minister Ashwini

COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu has shown major improvements in bringing down the maternal mortality fee, stated Union minister of state for health and circle of relatives welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey on Saturday. "I am happy to say that Tamil Nadu is one of the states with the lowest mortality rate. Hospitals here are focusing on maternal health very well," he stated.

Choubey was once speaking at the inauguration of a new super-specialty facility at the Sri Ramakrishna Hospital within the city.



He stated 'NaMo Care', the nationwide health safety scheme introduced at a budget of Rs 2,000 crore, was once the primary of its type in the world. "The scheme will benefit 10 crore poor and deprived people and their family members. Under this scheme, each family will get a coverage of Rs 5 lakh. This is the biggest government health scheme in the world," he stated.


Choubey stated the Centre was once desirous about establishing an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Tamil Nadu. "Five new AIIMS colleges will be set up across the nation by 2022," he stated. He stated the budget of the National Health Mission (NHM) for 2017-2018 was once Rs 21,940.70 crore, but it was once higher to Rs 24,908.61crore for 2018-19. "There is a growth of 14%," he stated.
