Police raid properties of Assam forest official

GUWAHATI: The vigilance and anti-corruption wing of Assam Police in a sequence of operations on Wednesday raided no less than four homes in the city belonging to a best wooded area department official, recognized as Aftab Uddin Ahmed, at the suspicion of him proudly owning disproportionate belongings.

The wing had registered a case on Tuesday against the official, following a prior inquiry which revealed that Ahmed owns belongings worth a number of lakhs, in the state as well as outdoor, which are disporportionate to his supply of income.

Superintendent of the wing Anand Mishra informed TOI, "During the raids, sleuths have found several documents related to his property and bank details and other investments papers. There are several properties which were suspected to be documented at highly undervalued rates. However, the documents need to be assessed to unearth the truth." Sources added that the wing had gained a grievance of corruption against Ahmed in 2009 when he was once posted because the divisional wooded area officer in Nagaon district.
