HUBBALLI: BJP chief Jagadish Shettar has mocked AICC president Rahul Gandhi for the way he addressed Basavanna and pronounced probably the most vachanas at Saturday’s rally in Athani, Belagavi district.
Asking Congress leaders to coach Rahul in saying Kannada words, Shettar said that the AICC president addressed the 12+t+h century social reformer as Basavji whereas people call him Basavanna or Basaveshwara. “I used to be gazing TV and when Rahul pronounced Basavji, it took me a minute to know whom he is quoting. Later, I noticed that he used to be saying the title of Basavanna. The Congress leaders additionally got him read Basavanna vachana ‘Ivanaarava Ivanaarava’. Rahul wrongly pronounced it as ‘Ivanarva Ivanarva.’ This is an insult to the Kannada language and Basavanna,” the opposition chief in the legislative meeting instructed reporters here on Sunday.

Shettar claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has read Basavanna greater than Rahul.


“Rahul has not read 10% of what Modi has read about Basavanna. It is recommended that Rahul reads Basavanna’s philosophies earlier than talk about him,” he said.


Shettar additionally requested Rahul to discuss the assault case by which Mohammed Nalapad, the son of MLA N A Haris, is involved. “Despite the intense nature of the incident, Congress leaders are behaving as though nothing has happened. Till December, the government had utilized Rs 1.12 lakh crore. Still, Rs 74,000 crore is lying unspent and I wonder how it would be spend the volume in two months,” he said.
