Allahabad: Dalit student dies after being attacked with bricks and rods

ALLAHABAD : A 26-year-old Dalit student, who had slipped into coma after a group of students attacked him with bricks and rods at a cafe near Laxmi Talkies in Old Katra area of town final week, died on Sunday.
The police lodged an FIR towards six folks, and the primary accused, Munna Chauhan, used to be arrested after being known from the CCTV footage acquired from the eating place.

SP (City) Siddharth mentioned the deceased used to be known as Dilip Saroj, who belonged to Pratapgarh. Saroj used to be pursuing LLB form Allahabad Degree College and lived at a rented room in Om Gayatri Nagar.On Friday night time, Saroj's buddy Sameer had thrown a birthday party at a cafe after he bought a two-wheeler. Saroj, Sameer and two other pals Prakash and Siddharth had ordered food and have been sitting at the stairs of the eating place when Vijay Shankar Singh and his pals came for dinner, the police mentioned.

When they have been hiking the steps, Singh's feet reportedly touched Saroj. The latter objected to it and an altercation started. Soon, it led to replace of blows the two groups began throwing chairs on every other. One of the flying chairs hit a waiter, Munna Chauhan. An enraged Chauhan then hit Saroj with a rod, the police mentioned. Inspector of Colonelganj police station Awadesh Pratap Singh mentioned, "As per the CCTV footage obtained from the restaurant, they attacked Saroj mercilessly in the restaurant. He tried to flee but fell unconscious outside the restaurant. The accused, however, continued to hit him with rods and bricks in his head and body."

'SC-ST Act but to be incorporated in FIR'

An FIR used to be lodged towards Singh and his buddy under Sections 323 (voluntarily inflicting harm), 307 (try to homicide) and 308 (try to commit culpable homicide) of IPC.

"The SC-ST Act, however, is yet to be included in the FIR," mentioned a police officer.


When attackers left the scene, the eating place proprietor, Amit Upadhyay, with the help of others were given Saroj admitted to Swarooprani Nehru Hospital. Soon he used to be shifted to a medical institution where docs declared him "brain dead".


On Saturday, Saroj brother, a PCS officer posted at Rae Bareli, shifted him to a personal medical institution where he died of his accidents.


Allahabad SSP Akash Kulhary suspended three policemen on fees of dereliction of tasks.


Kulhary mentioned three police groups have been formed to nab the remaining accused.
